Monaco Middle School's Mariachi program, Mariachi Los Gavilanes, has been serving the Las Vegas community since 2002. Our music organization is one of the nation's largest mariachi programs.
Every year, members of Mariachi Los Gavilanes have been consistently chosen to be a part of the CCSD All-City Mariachi, CCSD Honor Mariachi, and the CCSD Director's Choice Mariachi. Mariachi Los Gavilanes has represented the Clark County School District with performances in Arizona, California, Nevada, and New Mexico.
Under the direction of Ramiro Benavides and Yvette Sital, Mariachi Los Gavilanes has received the Superior Rating award at the CCSD District Mariachi Festivals on numerous occasions. In April of 2012, Mariachi Los Gavilanes de Monaco Middle School once again received this highly prestigious award.

On January 21, 2015, Mariachi Los Gavilanes de Monaco Middle School performed for guitar legend Carlos Santana at the House of Blues at the Mandalay Bay Casino. It was an AMAZING evening for our mariachi students! The first part of the evening was the official presentation of the 80 guitars donated to our Monaco mariachi program from Carlos Santana and Hermes Music. Our mariachi students performed for Mr. Santana, their parents, and all of the news media in attendance. Everyone was amazed at our students' level of musicianship and passion as they performed! Carlos Santana had some amazing, inspiring words for our students after the performance. Below is a video clip of him commending our mariachi students.

Mariachi Nationals and Summer Institute - August 10, 2014

Mariachi Los Gavilanes de Monaco Middle School attended the 2014 Jose Hernandez Mariachi Nationals and Summer Institute at Orange Coast College in Orange County, CA, August 6-10, 2014. This unique event provided an exceptional opportunity to study with and perform for some of the best professional mariachis and educators in the country. Mariachi Los Gavilanes also participated in the adjudicated mariachi competition in the Robert B. Moore Theatre at Orange Coast College and was named the Middle School Category Grand Champion. Mariachi Los Gavilanes was invited to perform along with the other category winners at the main concert with world the world renowned Mariachi Sol de Mexico for a crowd of more than 2,000 people at the Orange County Fair. The directors for Mariachi Los Gavilanes de Monaco Middle School are Ramiro Benavides Jr., Yvette Sital and Daniel Valdez.
Battle of the Mariachis 2012-2013
Our Monaco mariachi students competed in the 1st Annual Battle of the Mariachis Competition. We captured 1st place in the middle school division!! Our average score was 95 out of 100. One judge gave us a perfect score of 100. Another judge said we were so good that he used our students’ performance as a reference to score the other groups. Congratulations, once again, to our awesome Mariachi students and the parents and teachers who support them!
